Bang Pa-In Royal Palace
Sits right on the road in before Ayutthaya town, so it fits neatly into the drive. The grounds mix Thai, Chinese and European architecture around ornamental lakes. Open roughly 08:00–16:00, and shoulders and knees must be covered.
Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
Just outside the island on the eastern side, ideal as a first stop before entering town. You can climb the huge central chedi for a view over the plains, and there is a large reclining Buddha plus long rows of saffron-robed statues.
Wat Phra Mahathat
Home to the sandstone Buddha head held in the roots of a fig tree — the single most photographed sight in Ayutthaya. Etiquette matters here: crouch down so your head is lower than the Buddha's before anyone takes the picture.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet & Viharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit
Three bell-shaped chedis lined up inside the former royal palace grounds, and a short walk away a hall housing one of Thailand's largest bronze Buddha images. Food and souvenir stalls cluster around the entrance.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Khmer-style prangs on the riverbank west of the island, and the favourite spot for renting traditional Thai costume for photos. Light is best in the late afternoon, and on some Friday–Sunday evenings and public holidays the ruins are floodlit after dark.
Ayothaya Floating Market & riverside restaurants
A relaxed final stop for boat noodles, grilled river prawns and roti sai mai (Ayutthaya's cotton-candy pancake) to take home. Parking is easy, which makes it a practical last stop before the drive back.

Two vehicle options
The Toyota Commuter suits larger groups travelling with luggage or shopping, while the Toyota Alphard is the more comfortable choice for small families, older travellers or anyone wanting proper reclining seats.
No parking or tuk-tuk haggling
Lanes inside the historical park are narrow and car parks at the popular temples fill up fast on weekends. Your driver handles all of it and waits at the gate, so you never negotiate a ride in the midday heat.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to drive from Bangkok to Ayutthaya?
The distance is about 96 km, which is normally 1 hour 15 minutes to 1.5 hours from central Bangkok in ordinary traffic. During the morning rush or on long holiday weekends it can stretch to two hours or more, so we suggest a pickup before 07:00 if you want a full day at the ruins.
Is a day trip from Bangkok enough, or should we stay overnight?
One day is plenty for a first visit. Most groups comfortably cover four or five sites plus a proper lunch — for example Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Phra Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, then Wat Chaiwatthanaram in the late afternoon light. Adding Bang Pa-In Royal Palace works too, as long as you leave Bangkok by 07:00, since the palace closes at 16:00.
Can we add stops, and does the driver act as a guide?
On a one-way transfer you can make a short stop along the way; to visit several sites, reorder the route or stay longer, book an hourly charter so the van waits for you, with no per-stop charges within the booked hours. Our drivers are professional drivers rather than licensed guides, so if you want a licensed English-speaking guide or a driver who can communicate in basic English, please mention it when booking and we will check what our partner network can arrange.
What is included in the price, and what should we budget separately?
Fuel, expressway tolls, the driver and bottled water are all included in the ฿3,100 or ฿8,500 one-way fare — nothing is added at the end of the trip. You should budget separately for temple and palace entrance fees, which are modest per site with combined tickets available, plus your own meals.
How do we book, and what is the deposit?
Message us on LINE @kingtocar or call 084-709-3719 with your date, pickup address in Bangkok, group size and rough itinerary. A 50% deposit confirms the booking and the balance is paid on the day of travel. Booking a few days ahead is wise for weekends and Thai public holidays.
How much is a taxi from Bangkok to Ayutthaya?
Our private van taxi from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is a fixed price per vehicle, one way: Toyota Commuter ฿3,100 (9–13 seats) or Toyota Alphard ฿8,500 (6–7 seats), including driver, fuel, tolls and drinking water — no meter and no surcharge for luggage. Pickup from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airport is the same fare. The return from Ayutthaya costs the same.
On a full-day charter, what if we go over the time or distance?
If the van and driver stay with your group all day (same-day return or sightseeing stops), packages start at 8 hours · 240 km (Commuter ฿5,350 / Alphard ฿12,750). Extra time is ฿300 per hour for the Commuter or ฿600 per hour for the Alphard, and extra distance is ฿25/km (Commuter) or ฿45/km (Alphard). Entrance tickets are extra, and if you add stops or change plans along the way, we always tell you the price difference first. One-way transfers (Commuter ฿3,100 / Alphard ฿8,500) are a fixed fare with no extra time or distance charges.
